Brian and I took off Thursday afternoon and headed up to apache lake via Apache Junction. Camped Thur night with the intention to head northeast of Roosevelt to try to connect to Salt River Canyon. A late start Friday (nice), a closed road, and then a few miles of some way-too-gnarly-for-fully Loaded- GS’s trails looking for an alternative route motivated us to head to the North end of Apache Lake to camp Friday.
If you have not been up there it is absolutely gorgeous…and better yet, deserted. Everything is open but I guess the Phoenix folks don’t like the cold. The Ranger said it stays quiet until April. Night temps were in the low 40’s so cold gear is a must…
