SEATRider.org  Well, it seems we didn’t pay our domain name bill and the SEAT website got put on hold.  If you tried to log on to SEAT, you got GoDaddy.com  Little did we know that our domain name was registered with GoDaddy.com as our actual website is hosted by Cedant.com.  The original sign-up for the domain name SEATRider.com was so long ago that even the folks who set it up didn’t remember the details; and if you don’t know your log on stuff, you’re SOL - Signed Off the List!

For those of you who don’t know, here’s how it works.  In order to get a name for your website, a domain name, you have to pay somebody to register it for you.  At one time it was a bit expensive; today a year’s worth of domain name registration is eight bucks or so with discounts for multiple year registration.  Signing up is simple; if your chosen site name is available you can have your domain name in about 24 hours.  The domain name belongs to you for as long as you continue to pay the bills...don’t pay and it stops working right now!

Our first attempts with GoDaddy.com to pay the bill and get the domain name working again didn’t go very well.  No password, no action.  Several letters of intent with copies of scanned in driver’s licenses attached went into the bit basket and off to GoDaddy with little or no action.  Only the original owner of the domain name SEATRider.com could do anything - period; and GoDaddy took some insistent prodding to help us establish that to their satisfaction.

Craig Littlefield, our illustrious webmaster, working with Ted, our prior webmaster extraordinaire, has gotten things worked out.  We’ve changed our domain name to SEATRider.org; that’s SEATRider dot ORG.  We registered it with the same folks who host our website.  Craig worked his magic to get all the SEAT stuff off the old name and moved to the new name.  We also got the old site name back up and working, and even if you enter SEATRider.com you will be redirected to SEATRider.org.  In a year SEATRider.com will fade back into the domain name pool.  Best to change your favorites and saved URLs now.

So there you have it, the SEATRider dot com copper clapper caper.  It was a learning experience that will be documented in our historical files never to be forgotten...at least that’s the plan.  Deryle and Wanda Mehrten, getting more net savvy every year.
