Blatherings From The Editor South West MC Rides Forum (July 2005) South West MC Rides Forum It has been a year or so since Ron Pelton started up the South West MC Rides chat site. When Ron first contacted me I tried to log onto the site but for some reason I just couldn’t get the host site to let me in. I noticed Craig Littlefield our esteemed Webmaster was a member and had posted several responses to some questions. I really wanted to answer a gentleman’s question about some Arizona roads so I asked Ron to help me get logged on. It took a bit but he got me in. So now what? Just what is or could this site be all about? First and foremost it is a means of communication with the subject hopefully motorcycle riding related. That covers a lot of ground (pun intended). For example, the question posted by a non-Arizonian had to do with riding in and through Arizona. Who better than SEAT members would know the answer? I’m willing to bet there’s no paved road in Arizona that a SEAT member or two hasn’t ridden. And come to think of it, there may not be any non-paved roads that SEAT members haven’t explored either. There is a real knowledge base in SEAT. Then there is the email or telephone question we get just about every month, “Where is the next lunch, who is riding there, how are they getting there and can we ride with you.” These may be new members or out-of-state members who aren’t familiar with the restaurant location or the roads getting there, and are looking for folks to ride with. Unless Wanda and I agree to meet them, my standard answer basically is you are on your own. Now consider if we could direct that question to a chat site where I’m sure there are several SEAT members that could possibly help them out. That’s what the club’s all about. One thing I hate to do is send all of SEAT email forwarding information or requesting assistance for some reason or another. We do try not to invade your privacy. I’ll bet we are on a spam blocker list or two. Using the SWMCRides forum you do not have to expose your email address unless you want to. Information on rides, roads and any other motorcycle riding subjects can be gained without someone pushing themselves into your in box. Very handy. So bottom line, get on over to http://groups.msn.com/SouthWestMCRides and sign up. If you have any trouble contact Ron at six_wings@hotmail.com or via phone at (520) 458-7309. Wanda and I will start monitoring the site more often and hope to see you there. Deryle and Wanda, keeping in contact.
