Blatherings From The Editor A letter from BMW MOA
BMW MOA Recently I received a phone call from Ms. Deb Lower, Vice President of the BMW MOA, telling me about a letter I would be receiving concerning the status of the SEAT club as it relates to being a part of the BMW MOA family of clubs. Ms. Lower did not want to speak to the contents of the letter, just that I should disregard it and throw it away. To say my curiosity was piqued is an understatement. I immediately went out and checked the snail-mailbox. For those of you who don’t know, SEAT is BMW MOA Chartered Club #213. Once a year we renew out vows to MOA through a $15.00 donation. In return we get all the advantages of being a Chartered BMW MOA Club. This includes free advertising in the BMW MOA Owners’ News, a BMW MOA medallion to give to a deserving member, and a few other administrative perks that go with being a member of any association. Back to the letter. The letter was from Mr. Sam Lepore, the MOA’s Chartered Clubs Coordinator at the time. The BMW MOA Bylaws require that to be a BMW MOA chartered club you must be a BMW motorcycle club. Because the acronym BMW is not in our club name Mr. Lepore was requesting I “…provide the necessary information…” to prove that we are in fact a BMW motorcycle club. I would have to submit the needed documentation to the BMW MOA Board of Directors before we would be allowed to renew our charter. Wow, what a surprise! Although we allow non-BMW riding members, I never thought of SEAT as anything other than a BMW motorcycle club. Anyway, we disregarded the letter and didn’t send any documentation to the MOA. A few days later we heard that Mr. Lepore resigned as Club Coordinator. Really makes you wonder what was going on. Strange things can happen. By the way, this is election time for the BMW MOA. If you are a MOA member the ballot and biographies of the candidates are in your April 2004 issue. Your ballot must be postmarked by 31 May 2004. What a bummer, there are no SEAT members officially vying for office this election. This can’t be! Lets start a write-in movement - Jeff Dean for BMW MOA President; Roger Austin for Secretary; and Menachem Lorber and Pat Walsh for Directors! SEAT CAN TAKE OVER THE MOA! Deryle and Wanda, ain’t politics grand!
