Ride to Kingston

On October 19th, 2012 seven of the Friday riders headed for Kingston NM. We planned to stay there on Friday night and then go on to Alpine Arizona for the SEAT overnighter on Saturday. We would ride home on Sunday.

We left Tucson early taking AZ77 to Globe and on to Safford. Then over Mule Creek Pass to Silver City. Kingston is 60 miles east of there over NM152. It is a tight winding road over the Black Mountains. A great motorcycle ride.

We stayed at the Black Range Lodge. It is an old lodge that is family owned. It is very rustic but a great place to stay. They do not usually serve dinner but as there are no restaurants in the area they fixed of dinner of hamburgers and hot dogs and all the trimmings. In the morning they served us breakfast. We all enjoyed hanging around the pool table in the evening.

If you are looking for a great short overnight destination with your bike or you significant other this is the place.

October 2012 Lunch

We had a great turnout for the October 2012 lunch at Elvira's in Tubac. The food, service and company were all excellent. Look for your face in the photos below.

See you next weekend in Alpine.

Southern California Mountains

In October of 2012 Len Robbins, Dave Delie, Mark Booth and Craig Littlefield went on a 4 day motorcycle trip to southern California. Our objective was to ride all the good motorcycle roads south of I10. We covered about every one of them.

We stayed 3 nights in the Best Western in Temecula. It worked out perfectly. One day we rode south taking several winding roads and driving the length of CA94 from Boulevard to San Diego. The second day we went north through Hemet to Idyllwild, down through Palm Springs and then back over the mountains to the Ortega highway. The weather was great though a bit hot for this time of the year. No problems but a couple of good stories to tell.

Southern Utah

In September of 2012 Dave Delie and I set up a last minute motorcycle trip to Southern Utah.

We drove the first day to Kanab Utah. We took a route through Globe, Payson, up Lake Mary Road to Flagstaff. Then we went up 89 to Alt 89, stopping at Lee's Ferry.  Then going through Jacob Lake we arrived in Kanab.  We got a motel there for two nights.

Dave had never been to Lee's Ferry. This is where they used to cross the Colorado River before the bridges were built. Is now the kick off point for rafting parties going down through the Grand Canyon.

The next day we took a loop through Zion National Park and up to Cedar City for breakfast. Zion National Park is a wondrous place. It is so full of tourists that is not great for motorcycling but a slow ride through it is worth the trip just to see the scenery. It was not that crowded early on a September morning.

Then highway 14 out of Cedar City up to Cedar Breaks. Cedar Breaks is sort of out of the way but it is worth the visit. The roads around there are great for motorcycles with lots of curves, little traffic and no cops.

Next we went north to Panguitch and then south and east on highway 12, one of our favorite roads which goes to Escalante. North of Escalante the earth opens up on both sides of the road for the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. We need to come back here with the GSs and do some off road riding.

The day was getting late so instead of going on to Torrey we returned to Kanab.

Coming home we returned through Jacob Lake and down US 89 but we turned to go to Tuba City. Then across the Navaho and Hopi reservation to highway 77. That took us through Holbrook to Show Low and home.

It was a great ride. We went about 1400 miles in 3 days. It is the kind of ride that Dave and I enjoy.

September Lunch in Oracle

In spite of threatening skies we had a pretty nice turnout for our September lunch.  Our host this time was the Oracle Inn Steakhouse.  October we'll try out a new place, Elvira's Mexican food in Tubac.  Hope to see everyone there!
