SEAT Overnighter in Show Low, AZ

 June 2009

This year’s Overnighter was a blast.  Not as many folks as in years past, still a great crowd that made for a really good time for everyone.

The Show Low Days Inn rooms were big and clean.  Getting a ground floor was nice as the rooms have street level access, making it easy to get all our “stuff” from the bike to the room.

It was nice to have a full service restaurant and bar on the premises, too.  The Days Inn’s breakfast coupons at JB’s were right on time.  Of course the beers in the upstairs bar weren’t bad either.

Licano’s Mexican Food and Steak House is right across the street from the Days Inn.  That made it easy to do dinner without any worry about riding back to the hotel after a few drinks.  Pretty busy road though, it took some doing to get across earlier in the day.

The food and service at Licano’s were both excellent.  The restaurant set us up in a nice room with a large table all to ourselves.  The waitresses were pleasant and made sure everyone got served.  They really did a good job.

Thanks to Iron Horse Motorcycles and Xplorer Moto (Rick and Mary Lambert) for the most excellent door prizes.  With the SEAT prizes added in, I believe everyone got a door prize.  It was a hoot!

The June SEAT Happy Birthday goes out to Craig Littlefield, our illustrious web master.  A SEAT hat door prize was a fitting birthday present.  Craig celebrated his 72nd birthday.  That’s a lot!

Riding around Show Low was a bit dampened Saturday…it rained.  It was like the monsoons…hot and muggy, then rain in the afternoon.  That didn’t stop anybody from going for a ride.  The riding around Show Low, along the Mogollon Rim, is some of the best in Arizona.  Sunday was a beautiful day, just made for riding.

For the shoppers, Show Low didn’t really have a shopping district.  Seems the tourist district is in Pine Top, another 10 miles or so south on Hwy 260.  A bit too far to walk.

Which brings up the question…where should we do the Overnighter in 2010?  The big restaurant in Alpine is open again.  Maybe Alpine?  How about Show Low?  There are some interesting hotels/motels and restaurants along 260.  Maybe Greer (expensive) or back to Springerville?  Send your ideas to editor@SEATRider.org.  Never too early to start planning.
