Overnighter ot Superior

December 15th and 16th

Bill Flannery and Jim Philips enjoyed a great overnight ride to Superior this week in absolutely perfect weather. A huge thanks to Jim for making the ride/adventure fun and memorable.

Day 1: Tucson area to Superior:

- Route: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Bk1Wer9zdq11rLAk8

- Rte 60 from Globe to Superior: This is the first time riding this section of road following the major flooding event and we were struck by the enormous size/scope of the damage and the reconstruction project to repair the damage. Lots of heavy equipment is on site and working feverishly. The road is closed to all traffic several days a week during certain hours to allow unimpeded work to continue as quickly as possible.

- Historic Hotel Magma: This is a wonderful example of a hotel being saved and painstakingly brought back to life following many years of neglect, major disrepair and damage. It's now a beautiful hotel with nice large rooms, a spectacular entrance/lobby and large dining area. We were the only two guests at the hotel on this particular Monday evening.

- Porter's Saloon & Grill: We enjoyed a great dinner at this quite unique and cool saloon/grill with friendly and hospitable locals.

- Downtown: On the walk from the hotel to Porter's and back we got to experience the downtown area of Superior with many interesting and high-quality store fronts/businesses along the way. It's the kind of town one would like to return to for several days with family to fully experience the history of the town and all it has to offer.

Day 2: Superior to Tucson area:

- Route: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Bk1Wer9zdq11rLAk8

- Ride home: Both Bill and Jim had short routes to get home from Superior. Jim to Scottsdale and Bill to Sahuarita. For Bill the ride down Rte 177 from Superior to Winkelman during the quiet early morning hours was spectacular with the sunlight making its way up over the mountains, highlighting the natural beauty of the area and the wonderful road with sweeping curves and rolling hills. This truly captured the essence and spiritual nature of riding motorcycles and why we all love to ride.
