Overnight ride to Las Cruces

                                                          Sunday October 26st                                                                               

departed Sierra Vista to Las Cruces via Douglas and NM 9.

 

Then to Alpine via U.S. 60 stopping at the VLA (Very Large Array - remember the movie Contact w/ Jodie Foster).

Stayed at Hotel Encanto De Las Cruces - dinner at De La Vegas Pecan Br and Grill or Cattle Baron. In Alpine the Sportsman Lodge - dinner at Foxfire or Still & Grill.

Gary Oberg led the ride ​and Jim Phillips and Rob Deforge joined him. The weather was excellent as were the dining options including the Cattle Baron and Chlitos in Las Cruces.

Gary, Jim and I met in Sierra Vista Sun morning and proceeded to the Geronimo surrender memorial via rte 9 along the border. We proceeded to las cruces for the night. Mon we headed to Socorro NM via rte 25. We headed towards Reserve NM , beautiful scenery along 60. Arrived at the Very Large Array for a quick tour. On to Alpine for the night. Dinner at Alpine Grill. Tue morning Jim and I headed back towards Tucson via Big Lake and then Sho Low, Slat River Canyon , Globe etc… nice uneventful ride with some cooler temps at elevation.
