Supercross Races
February 7th & 8th
SEAT members Bill Flannery and Mike Shaffer rode to and attended the 2026 AMA Supercross races in Glendale on Saturday, 2/7. Everything went as planned ("it's a miracle"...):
- We met up in Casa Grande at the Big House Cafe around 12:45 pm and enjoyed a fantastic lunch. Thanks to the SEAT club for making this a recent lunch ride destination so we were aware of the cafe and how great it is for lunch.
- From Casa Grande we rode directly to Glendale to the luxurious Motel 6. There were a few traffic slowdowns along the way as always in the Phoenix area, but we kept moving albeit very slowly and made decent overall time. Editorial comment: I wish AZ would adopt California's complete lane sharing regulations that allow for lane sharing on freeways in certain conditions. Those who don't want to lane share can simply decide not to.
- Motel 6 Glendale: We checked into the Motel 6 and parked our bikes in our normal great parking spot directly in front of the main entrance where no cars are allowed to park. Very convenient indeed. Our rooms were nice, fairly large, clean, safe and quite comfortable. The next morning's coffee was available at 6:00 am in the lobby which was appreciated but the coffee itself was pretty nasty. We each drank a cup of it however. This particular Motel 6 is very reasonable in terms of cost compared to the extremely overpriced hotels closer to the stadium and is a great alternative.
- Ride Share: We enlisted Uber or Lyft for the short ride to the State Farm Stadium for the event which worked out great except the official drop off location wasn't very close to the stadium. We walked the distance to the stadium then discovered we need to walk nearly around the inside of the entire stadium to get to our seats. We definitely got our steps in the day. Next year I'll get seats on the other side of the stadium.
- Event Seats: Our seats were fantastic with a clear view of the entire track and were located very near the food court, beer stands and restrooms.
- Event: Attending Supercross and Motocross races is an awesome experience and this year's Glendale SX races was no exception. The racing action was superb and simply witnessing the skills and endurance of these racer athletes is absolutely amazing. They're the fastest, most highly skilled off-road racers on the planet riding the fastest off-road bikes on the planet. I've been very fortunate to attend MANY of these races with my son over the years from Anaheim, San Diego, Seattle to Boston. We've also ridden to and attended MANY famous AMA Motocross tracks/races: Southwick, Fox Raceway, Hangtown, Washougal and Glen Helen. We attend as many of these races as possible each year.
- Taxi: From State Farm Stadium we walked to a nearby hotel as planned and hailed a taxi to take us back to the Motel 6. The cab cost more but was available within minutes compared to a Ride Share option which would've had us waiting for at least 45 minutes for pick up.
- Ride back to Tucson: We got an early 7:00 am start from Glendale to Tucson on Sunday morning and decided to take the most direct route to arrive home early.
A huge thanks to fellow racing fan/enthusiast Mike Shaffer for making this year's Glendale SX races a very enjoyable and memorable ride/experience.
Thanks,
Flan
